5 year BS & MS Program in CSE

Undergraduates in the CS, CSE and CompE programs may apply for the 5-year Master’s program. This provides a streamlined path to the Master of Science degree, offering opportunities for reduced credit totals and financial support.

Program details:

  • Admission criteria. Undergraduate CS, CSE, and CompE students in their senior year may apply. Undergraduate transcripts must show that you have met the following criteria:
    • At least 86 credits (classification as a senior);
    • A cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 for your entire undergraduate career or a grade-point average of at least 3.0 for your last two undergraduate years or exceptional work in your entire final undergraduate year (3.5 or better);
    • A minimum grade-point average of 3.0 or better for all graduate coursework (even if your undergraduate grade-point average meets the above criteria).
  • Up to 12 credits of traditional CSE graduate courses (5000-6000 level) may be counted towards both the Bachelor’s degree and the Master’s degree. This can effectively reduce the additional credits necessary after the Bachelor’s degree to as little as 18. If students wish to use cross-listed courses for this purpose, they must take the graduate version of the course.
  • Students may apply for departmental graduate teaching assistantships, which provide tuition waivers and a stipend during their graduate studies. Applications can be filed at the same time as the Graduate School application.
  • Applications for Fall admission are accepted through April 15th. Admissions and TA decisions will be made by the end of the Spring semester.
  • See the detailed plan of study.
