Tom Peters, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Professor of Mathematics, has won an international election to serve a two year term as the Chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Geometric Design (SIAG-GD). The SIAG-GD is concerned with the mathematical and computational issues that arise in generating and processing geometric information for various engineering applications, such as mechanical design, process planning, and manufacturing – ranging from rigorous mathematics to the subjective aesthetics of shape. Responsibilities include leadership in the development and oversight of programs that will best achieve goals of the SIAG-GD, inclusive of its biennial conference, website, a member directory, and electronic mailing list.
